Oliver Olivo
Filmmaker and architect. Has a MFA in film direction at the New York Film Academy under the Fulbright Program of the Department of State of the United States. In September 2023 he released his first feature-length documentary “Yaque,” a film that chronicles the lives of the people who live along the most important river in the Dominican Republic. In 2024 finished his second film “4%, an EDUCA Documentary,” a feature documentary about the education system of the Dominican Republic. At the same time, he works on the development of his feature-length documentary project “Reclaiming Lost Paradise,” winner of FONPROCINE 2022 in the Project Development category. He also develops the fiction film “La Voz Dominicana,” winner of FONPROCINE 2021, in the Fiction Screenplay Writing category.
In February 2024 directed “Los Pasos del Tiempo,” a performative documentary telling the history of Ballet in the Dominican Republic. In 2024, “Yaque” was selected as the best documentary of 2023 by the Dominican Association of Press and Film Critics.
In 2010, as team coordinator and photographer, he traveled the world with the “Swim Across the Continents” project with Dominican ultra-distance swimmer Marcos Díaz. The project, co-sponsored by the United Nations, aimed to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals.
Oliver has a master's degree in Planning of Tourist Territories and Coasts from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia-Intelligent Coast. He has worked in the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, coordinating the National Beach Management Plan and as a professor at the PUCMM School of Architecture in Santo Domingo.
